An 11-year-old Puyallup boy drowned Thursday while wading across the White River near Mount Rainier National Park. Pierce County's swift-water rescue team retrieved his body about a quarter-mile downstream from where he lost his footing and was washed away about 11:30 a.m. Pierce County sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said Jason Russell was spotted by searchers half-submerged on rocks just inside the park about noon.

Pierce County corrections officials are looking into the death of a 61-year-old woman who was in the process of being booked into the jail this morning. The Washington State Patrol had arrested the woman on suspicion of drunken driving, Pierce County sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said. She reportedly was making a phone call in a holding cell when investigators suspect she killed herself just after 4 a.m., he added.

Pierce County sheriff's officials say a 59-year-old woman was beaten to death with a bar stool in a Puyallup home Saturday night. The Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as Yu Sang Li. Her 35-year-old daughter was arrested for investigation of first-degree murder, sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said. The daughter dialed 911 about 5 p.m.

The body of 16-year-old Puyallup girl Kimmie Daily was discovered Monday evening in the South Hill neighborhood, and one person is in custody, Pierce County Sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News. Kimberly "Kimmie" Daily had been missing since 1 p.m. Tuesday when family members said she was going to a friend's house. Family members told police that Kimberly was developmentally delayed, possessing the mental level of a 9-year-old.

A Tacoma woman was hospitalized with a broken arm after large rocks were thrown through the windshields of two cars being driven Tuesday afternoon on Pioneer Way East just outside Tacoma, according to the Pierce County sheriff. A 40-year-old woman called investigators about 12:20 p.m. and said a large rock had smashed through the windshield of her Jeep Cherokee and landed on the passenger side of the front seat. A second car, a Kia, was hit moments later in the same area in the 2800 block of Pioneer W

A gunman alleged to have shot dead four police officers is on the run after a house at the centre of a tense stand-off in Washington state was found to be empty, police say. After laying siege to the home in Seattle's Leschi neighbourhood for 11 hours, police SWAT teams entered the building where convicted felon Maurice Clemmons was believed to be holed up on Monday.
